Backup power by province

Rebates, outage patterns and permit rules differ across Canada. Pick your province.

British Columbia

BC Hydro's solar and battery rebate (up to $5,000 for batteries in Peak Saver), windstorms and atmospheric rivers.

Ontario

Home Renovation Savings rebate for batteries paired with new solar (up to $5,000), ice storms and derechos.

Alberta

CEIP financing through participating municipalities, grid alerts in cold snaps, wildfire season.

Federal programs

The Canada Greener Homes Grant and Canada Greener Homes Loan are both closed to new applicants, according to Natural Resources Canada. There is currently no federal rebate for portable power stations. Check NRCan's program page for anything new.

Portable power stations generally don't qualify for any of these rebates. They're aimed at installed, grid-connected batteries, usually paired with solar.
